Leonel criticizes the Government and calls for effectively addressing the high cost of living and insecurity

Santo Domingo.- The former president of the Republic and leader of the Fuerza del Pueblo, Leonel Fernández, expressed his wish that during the year 2026 the Dominican Government can effectively address the serious problems affecting the population. He urged President Luis Abinader to create public policies that address and curb the high cost of living, the deterioration of public services, and citizen insecurity. During a message addressed to the country through social media, Fernández pointed out that these challenges directly impact the quality of life of Dominican families and require concrete, effective, and sustained responses from the authorities. The former president stated that he hopes the Dominican people can enjoy a period of progress and prosperity, as long as public policies are implemented to alleviate the economic burden on citizens, improve essential services, and guarantee security in the communities.

Fernández emphasized that addressing these problems is a fundamental responsibility of the State, while reiterating the need to govern with social sensitivity and commitment to collective well-being.

The statements were offered within the framework of his pronouncement on the regional situation, in which the opposition leader also reiterated his call for dialogue and peace, both nationally and internationally.
