The Dominican government expanded the “Rural Woman” program fund to RD$250 million, an initiative promoted by the Agricultural Bank (Bagrícola) and the Ministry of Women, to strengthen the economic autonomy of female rural producers.
The administrator of the Agricultural Bank, Fernando Durán, made the announcement yesterday during the loan delivery ceremony for RD$17.7 million, at an annual rate of 8%, to 22 female farmers from San José de Ocoa, Hermanas Mirabal, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, and Sánchez Ramírez.
During the activity, held in the municipal district of Blanco, Monseñor Nouel province, Durán said that “Rural Woman” constitutes a specialized financial product, conceived to respond to the needs of rural women through preferential conditions that include interest rates from 0% to 8%, facilitating access to credit to boost agricultural production, strengthen entrepreneurship, and generate greater development opportunities.
“With this program, we are providing rural women with a financial instrument designed for them, with preferential conditions that allow them to access credit, invest in their projects, and continue contributing to the development of the Dominican countryside,” stated Durán.
The Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, stated that this initiative reflects a vision of the State that recognizes the strategic role of women in rural development and is committed to strengthening their participation in agricultural production value chains.
