Bonao.- The province of Monseñor Nouel became the setting for the launch of the program
“Rural Woman”, an initiative aimed at strengthening the economic, productive and social development of rural women in the Dominican Republic. The event was held at the Provincial Government, with the participation of national and provincial authorities and representatives of the agricultural sector.
The activity was led by the general administrator of the Banco Agrícola de la República Dominicana, Fernando Durán, and the Minister of the Ministry of Women of the Dominican Republic, Gloria Reyes, who formalized an inter-institutional agreement in favor of women farmers, entrepreneurs, and rural youth.
This agreement represents a significant step forward in recognizing and supporting the role of women in the agricultural sector, by establishing financing facilities with preferential rates, as well as training programs aimed at strengthening their productive capacities.
The program, which has the slogan “Woman, your vision transforms the field!”, is part of an International Training Program for Women in Agriculture, organized by the Agricultural Bank in coordination with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, and will be implemented nationwide.
During the event, the director of the Agricultural Bank highlighted that this agreement seeks to join efforts to boost key areas such as the agricultural sector, while emphasizing that the initiative is not limited exclusively to agricultural production, but rather encompasses the integral development of rural women.
The French Development Agency also participated in the launch, an entity that has accompanied the Agricultural Bank during the year 2025 in the implementation of the gender action plan, contributing to institutional strengthening in terms of equality and equity.
Minister Gloria Reyes valued this step as transcendental for Dominican rural women, highlighting that the program will be extended to the entire national territory. Likewise, she thanked the technical support of the AFD in the structuring and implementation of this strategy.
The event was attended by the provincial governor, Adela Tejada; the mayor, Eberto Núñez; José Miguel Bautista representing Senator Héctor Acosta; and Deputy Norberto Ortiz, as well as representatives of peasant women’s organizations.
This launch is part of President Luis Abinader’s commitment to the progress and well-being of Dominican women, promoting their inclusion in the country’s economic development and recognizing their fundamental role in the sustainability of the rural sector.
