Man reports missing assets after legal proceedings in 2014

Santo Domingo.- Mr. Javier Acosta reported that several of his assets were seized in 2014 during a judicial process, and that, to date, have not been returned. According to his testimony, the assets were seized during a judicial process in which, before concluding, he obtained a favorable ruling. Subsequently, when the case was sent back for a new trial, the process was declared extinguished. Acosta claims that, once the file was closed, he requested the return of his belongings, but assures that the authorities of La Vega gave him the runaround and, with the passage of time, the assets simply “disappeared”.

“My seized assets have disappeared: a platform crane, a legal firearm, 400 thousand pesos in cash, and multiple work tools,” Acosta stated.

He also maintains that, although he was declared innocent in the corruption case he was accused of, he still has a police record that prevents him from rebuilding his life. “I deposited all the documents with the Attorney General’s Office and the corresponding authorities so that they would remove that record, because my life is on hold. Under no circumstances will they take it away from me. The answer they give me is that they have nothing to do with it. No bank wants to open an account for me,” he lamented.
