Valentín Lavín Romero, mayor of Temoac, in Morelos, was murdered by a group of armed subjects inside the Municipal Presidency facilities on the morning of this Wednesday, July 22.
It was the Morelos Peace and Security Construction Table that reported the attack committed against the mayor, as well as the deployment of a security operation in both Temoac and neighboring municipalities.
According to reports, the mayor was attacked with gunfire when he was about to board his vehicle upon leaving the Municipal Palace, located in the center. A group of armed subjects intercepted him and shot at him before fleeing the scene.
Lavín Romero was wounded as a result of the attack, so emergency personnel arrived immediately to provide him with medical attention.
Morelos Prosecutor’s Office confirmed his death after the attack
After the attack against the mayor was reported, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Morelos confirmed his death resulting from “criminal acts”.

As part of the actions, personnel from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Eastern Regional Prosecutor’s Office of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) and the Coordination of Expert Services were deployed to the site to carry out the initial proceedings and the removal of the body of Valentín Lavín Romero, which remained inside the municipal presidency facilities.
Derived from the events, he detailed that a security operation was deployed to locate those responsible for the mayor’s murder.
“Following what happened, the institutions that make up the State Coordination Table for the Construction of Peace and Security deployed an operation in the municipality of Temoac and its surroundings in search of those responsible for these criminal acts,” it detailed in a statement.

This is the second attack against Valentín Lavín this year
This attack is the second one recorded this year against Mayor Valentín Lavín Romero. The first occurred in January, when he was shot at while driving along the Mexico-Oaxaca federal highway, near the community of Amayuca, in the municipality of Jantetelco.
The events occurred around 15:30 hours on the 26th, when witnesses alerted about firearm detonations near the El Faro gas station. Upon arriving, the police confirmed that the injured person was the mayor of Temoac, who was attended to by paramedics and subsequently transported to a hospital.
According to reports, the attack was carried out by a group of individuals traveling on a motorcycle. The accounts stated that Lavín Romero suffered a gunshot wound to the hip that was not life-threatening.
After the attack, the mayor requested a temporary leave from his position while receiving medical attention, but resumed his activities when he was discharged from the hospital (about a month after the events).
Local media reported that in the month of March, a group of armed men attacked businesses allegedly owned by the mayor on at least two occasions, including a hardware store called “El Gallo,” where only material damage was reported.
Violence began since he was elected mayor in his first administration
Valentín Lavín assumed the mayoralty of Temoac in January 2025, a position he had previously held between 2019 and 2021. The violence against him began when he was mayor-elect in 2018 for the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), when three of his relatives were murdered.
The events took place on September 14, when a group of subjects shot and killed the mother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a niece of the then-mayor-elect when they broke into his home, located on 16 de Septiembre street in the town of Huazulco.
The women were identified as Isabel “N”, 89 years old (mother-in-law), Eva “N”, 58 years old, and a minor with the initials L.Y.C.R., 7 years old.
