School Infrastructure executed more than 81% of the budget in 8 months

Santo Domingo.-The School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE) presented this Tuesday the results of the actions implemented by the Government during the year 2025, for the strengthening of national education, through an extraordinary plan for the construction of new classrooms, corrective and preventive maintenance of the different schools throughout the country.

Through a detailed report on the achievements made in eight months of management after the decentralization process was completed, the head of the institution, engineer Roberto Herrera, assured that together with his work team, he set as his first challenge to deliver 1,100 classrooms last August at the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, a goal that was surpassed, reaching 1,155 new classrooms throughout the country, a feat that was achieved after the implementation of the “Plan 24/7”.

Government prioritizes education:

While participating in the “Hoy Mismo” program on Color Visión with journalists Luisin Mejía, Oscar Medina, Freddy Sandoval, and Geomar García during a special coverage from the Casa de la Providencia Primary School, Herrera, he emphasized that by order of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, in his firm vision and commitment to prioritize education and with the coordination and supervision of the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, he has implemented a work schedule, performance, participation, and acceleration of tasks that have allowed the achievement of the planned and projected goals for the creation of dignified, functional, and safe spaces for students, teachers, and administrative staff of the national education system.

Budget Execution

Likewise, the Director of School Infrastructure detailed that the budgetary execution of the entity exceeded 81% between the months of May to December, after the decentralization of the DIE from MINERD and the formation of the Directorate as an Executing Unit, marking a historical milestone in the public investment of a recently created institution in the Dominican Republic. The School Infrastructure Directorate shows a historical dynamism with the execution of RD$ 7,635,331,126.28 from a budget of RD$ 9,448,893,905.48, which represents 81% of the entity’s current budget, reflecting the rigorous fulfillment of public investment commitments aimed at guaranteeing dignified and safe spaces for the educational community. The funds were channeled in strict adherence to the Law, current budgetary regulations and with transparency to ensure that every peso translates into tangible improvements for our schools.

Christmas in the Classrooms

Similarly, he highlighted the implementation of the “Christmas in the Classrooms 24/7” Plan, through which it was planned to intervene 256 schools with renovations and corrective maintenance during the Christmas holidays, managing to increase the number to 282, in addition to the new classrooms delivered to the educational system at the end of this year 2025, which contributes to closing the gap in the deficit of school spaces. Roberto Herrera assured that the objectives achieved during these 8 months of management are thanks to the firm support of President Luis Abinader, the Minister of Education Luis Miguel De Camps, the harmony and teamwork of the institution’s collaborators, the trust of the contractors and the integration of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), the Association of Parents, Mothers, Tutors and Friends of the School (APMAE), school principals, community and religious leaders, achieving a work chronology that has allowed prioritizing and responding to the country’s most pressing needs in terms of classrooms. The official stated that for the next year 2026, the School Infrastructure Directorate has allocated a budget of nearly 18 billion pesos to continue the construction of schools, corrective maintenance, and the increase of institutional operational capacity, after giving guarantees that it will be executed with transparency in the processes, the required quality and compliance with the works, in order to continue expanding school coverage and strengthening the national education system.
