Bogotá.- The mayor’s office of the municipality of Rioblanco, in the department of Tolima, central Colombia, was attacked this Sunday with drones and gunfire, leaving no victims as it was not a working day, reported the regional governor, Adriana Magali Matiz.
“At this moment, the urgent priority is to protect life. That is why we are calling on the authorities to adopt immediate security measures, reinforce the presence of the Public Force, and evaluate a curfew while the situation is brought under control,” stated Matiz on his X account.
The governor detailed that the attack caused “deep concern” among the population and pointed to illegal armed groups as responsible, since FARC dissidents operate in that area.
“Criminals intend to sow fear and disrupt the tranquility of the inhabitants, but we will not allow their actions to subjugate the citizenry,” said Matiz.
In a video posted by the governor, smoke can be seen coming from one of the facades of the mayor’s office, while in others, some shots are heard in the air.
“Rioblanco needs all the institutional capacity at this moment to recover tranquility and guarantee the safety of its inhabitants,” the governor maintained.

Colombia is experiencing an escalation of violence and explosive attacks that began the day before in various parts of the country, leaving one police officer dead, one day after the inauguration of the far-right Abelardo de la Espriella as the new president.
The Ombudsman’s Office requested this Sunday to prevent these attacks and pointed out that between Friday and Saturday there were “attacks, harassment, and incidents related to explosive devices” in the departments of Cauca, Nariño, Cesar, Antioquia, Tolima, Huila, Arauca, Caldas, Bolívar, Meta, and Guaviare.
