Santiago.– The mother of a 9-year-old girl has called for the public’s solidarity to raise the necessary funds to cover an orthopedic surgery her daughter requires after suffering a fracture in her right forearm following a fall.
The minor, identified as Disney Esther Espinal Hernández, is receiving medical attention at the Santiago Apóstol Medical Center, where, as explained by her mother, specialists determined that she needs a surgical intervention to avoid possible complications that could affect the mobility of her arm.
According to the woman, the procedure requires an approximate investment of RD$150,000, an amount that will be allocated to the purchase of surgical materials, the use of the clinic, and the services of the medical staff who will participate in the operation.
The mother indicated that the attending physician will waive their professional fees, so the requested money corresponds solely to the procedure costs and medical supplies.
Likewise, he denounced that Seguro Futuro rejected coverage for the surgery, alleging that the health plan contracted is of a basic nature and does not include that type of intervention.

He explained that, after receiving the refusal, he went to different institutions in search of support, but so far he has not obtained a favorable response.
“When one needs insurance the most is when it turns its back on the poor,” expressed the woman, who stated that she is facing financial difficulties, as she is a final-year student and currently does not have a job that allows her to cover the costs of the treatment.
