National Police shoots down armed man during operation in Higüey

Agents attached to the Sub-Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Dicrim) of the La Altagracia Regional Directorate, under the direction of Colonel Ramón Dicló Mateo, were preparing to execute an arrest warrant against Santiago Payano Paredes, alias “Gato”, Dominican, 37 years old, when he, upon realizing the police presence, confronted the agents by firing several shots with a firearm. Faced with the aggression, the acting members repelled the attack, managing to neutralize the aggressor, who was later transferred to a health center in this city of Higüey, where he died while receiving medical attention. The deceased was found with a .38 caliber revolver, with an illegible serial number, containing two (02) cartridges and two (02) mutilated cartridges in its cylinder.

According to police records, Santiago Payano Paredes was actively sought via arrest warrant, preliminarily accused of armed robbery and aggravated robbery. The National Police reiterates its firm commitment to continue working in accordance with the law, the proportional use of force, and respect for fundamental rights, guaranteeing peace, security, and tranquility for the citizens of La Altagracia province.
