Police officer shoots young man in the head during operation for “teteo” in Santiago

Santiago. – A 23-year-old is fighting for his life after being shot in the head during an operation carried out by agents of the National Police in the Ceibita sector, in the south zone of Santiago, while a supposed “teteo” or street party was taking place, a fact that has generated outrage in the community and demands for a thorough investigation. The victim was identified as Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete, who remains in critical condition after being hit by a projectile during the police intervention. The young man was rushed to a private health center in this city, where he underwent cranial surgery and remains under strict medical supervision. According to Jacinta Flete, the injured man’s aunt, police officers arrived at the scene throwing tear gas and firing shots to disperse the people who were in the area, at which point her nephew was hit by the shot in the head.

The event occurred after 7:00 a.m. this Thursday, when the agents intervened in the activity, allegedly with the aim of controlling the crowd, using tear gas and firearms, according to the version offered by the family members. Relatives of the young man indicated that, despite the surgical intervention, his state of health continues to be delicate, which keeps his loved ones in anguish. The incident has caused concern among residents of the Ceibita sector, who, along with the injured person’s family, demanded a thorough investigation by the authorities to clarify the circumstances in which the event occurred and determine responsibilities. So far, the National Police has not offered an official version nor has it provided details about the procedure carried out or how Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete was injured during the operation.
