National Police suspends agent for incident with journalists in Santo Domingo Este

Santo Domingo.– The National Police reported the preventive suspension of an agent who used pepper spray and drew his service weapon during an incident that occurred in front of journalists covering a news story in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este.

According to the institution’s spokesperson, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, the event is being investigated by internal control bodies to determine the circumstances in which the situation occurred and to establish the corresponding responsibilities.

The suspension measure was adopted by instructions of the director general of the institution, Major General Andrés Modesto Cruz Cruz, as part of the disciplinary protocols while the investigative process is underway.

Police authorities reiterated their respect for the work of journalists and the media, highlighting the importance of informative work in a democratic society.
