Samaná.- The political career of Nelson Núñez spans more than two decades of public service, a period during which he has held positions in the civil, legislative, and municipal spheres.
His career in public administration began as a Civil Registry officer for Santa Bárbara de Samaná, a position he held between 1997 and 2001. Subsequently, he was elected deputy for the province of Samaná for the 2002-2006 term, representing the constituency in the National Congress.
In 2016, he was elected mayor of the municipality of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, a position to which he has been re-elected for three consecutive terms (2016-2020, 2020-2024, and 2024-2028), remaining at the head of the city council for twelve years.
His participation in the municipal sphere expanded upon being elected president of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU) for the 2024-2026 period, from where he represents the country’s local governments and participates in discussion spaces regarding public policies related to municipal management.
With a career spanning over 20 years in various public roles and several won electoral processes, Nelson Núñez has established himself as one of the most enduring political figures in the province of Samaná.
