Las Terrenas, Samaná.- The Municipal Council of the Las Terrenas City Hall approved an ordinance on Integrated Solid Waste Management, Oversight and Sanctioning Regime, presented by councilwoman Wanifer Díaz, with the purpose of strengthening urban cleanliness, protecting the environment, and fostering greater civic responsibility in waste management.
The initiative establishes a regulatory framework aimed at improving waste management in the municipality, through the definition of responsibilities for citizens, businesses, companies, and public institutions, as well as the implementation of supervision and control mechanisms.
During the presentation of the proposal, Díaz explained that the ordinance is based on the shared responsibility of all sectors involved, the efficient organization of the collection service, and the oversight of compliance with the established rules.

The regulations include rules regarding collection schedules, management of large waste generators, and institutional obligations, with the goal of optimizing services and ensuring a more efficient use of public resources.
Likewise, it incorporates a sanctions regime for those who fail to comply with the provisions, although the councilwoman clarified that the measure mainly seeks to correct behaviors that affect collective well-being and promote a culture of respect for public spaces and the environment.

The ordinance also includes environmental education programs, public awareness campaigns, and an adaptation period prior to the enforcement of fines, in order to facilitate knowledge and compliance with the new provisions.
With this approval, the Las Terrenas City Council reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, the protection of natural resources, and the construction of a cleaner, more orderly municipality that is favorable for residents, merchants, and investors.
