Santo Domingo.– The preliminary hearing against Alexander Jiménez Galván, accused of causing the death of Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) employee Lyedgers Encarnación Peña and wounding two other members of the campus security staff, has been rescheduled for August 6th.
The decision was made after the defendant’s defense alleged that they had not had access to several complaints filed last month. The approach was supported by the plaintiff, who also indicated that they received documents submitted by the defense whose content has not yet been reviewed.
After the hearing concluded, Gerónimo Encarnación, the victim’s brother, expressed his dissatisfaction with another postponement of the proceedings and stated that at every stage, some situation arises that causes delays.
Although he stated that he maintains his confidence in the justice system, he acknowledged that at times the processes do not move forward as the family expects.

According to the indictment filed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred on October 16, when Jiménez Galván allegedly returned to the university campus to claim some documents that had been withheld from him the previous day, after parking his vehicle in an unauthorized area.
The case file states that the defendant arrived armed with a 12-gauge shotgun and fired at members of the university’s security team, causing the death of Encarnación Peña and wounding another security guard.
Following the attack, authorities indicate that the accused attempted to escape, abandoned the weapon and a vehicle at one of the entrances to the premises, and left the scene by climbing a wall. He was subsequently detained near the university by students, who handed him over to a National Police patrol.
