Public Ministry requests coercive measure against Army major for death of young man in Los Guandules

Santo Domingo.– The Public Ministry presented this Monday the request for a coercive measure against the major of the Dominican Republic Army Diego Geraldo Mesa Arismendy, accused of being linked to the death of Perla Jokasta Santos Pacheco, a 19-year-old girl, in an event that occurred in the Los Guandules sector, of the National District.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 26, when the victim was hit by a gunshot while in the vicinity of their residence. Subsequently, their body was found on the public road, which initiated an investigation by the Public Ministry and the National Police.

As part of the investigative process, the authorities conducted scene surveys, witness interviews, and analysis of images captured by video surveillance cameras, which allowed them to identify and arrest the accused, who was taken into custody and transferred to the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva.

The Public Ministry indicated that it will request the imposition of a coercive measure consisting of preventive detention, considering that there are sufficient elements that link the accused to the act and that justify said request in accordance with the provisions of the law.

The case has caused consternation among family members, residents of the sector, and society in general, while it is expected that the court will hear the requested measure and continue the corresponding judicial process.
