Santo Domingo. – Moved by deep institutional and human pain in the face of the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set establishment, and in honor of the memory of those who lost their lives, the Raíces de Esperanza Inc. Foundation formalized an Inter-institutional Collaboration Agreement with the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE). The objective of this agreement is to accompany, protect, and offer real opportunities for overcoming to the children and relatives of the victims, through education. This agreement is a direct result of the moral, social, and emotional commitment assumed by the “Raíces de Esperanza Foundation in the face of the human consequences of the tragedy”.

The initiative stems from the conviction that, in the face of the irreparable loss of life, society is called upon to respond with concrete, supportive, and sustained actions over time, especially in favor of children, adolescents, and young people who have been left orphaned and vulnerable. Within the framework of this program, the Raíces de Esperanza Foundation assumes the primary responsibility for the design, coordination, and comprehensive monitoring of the scholarship system, in close collaboration with UNICARIBE, which academically supports the initiative. The Foundation will be the entity in charge of identifying, certifying, and accompanying the beneficiaries, ensuring not only access to education, but also the social and emotional protection necessary for their integral development.

The agreement contemplates the joint management of 100% scholarships, which include:

• Primary and secondary education, through the Caribbean Military Academy (AMC). • Technical and undergraduate programs, taught by the Universidad del Caribe (UNICARIBE). As part of its core role, the Raíces de Esperanza Foundation will be in charge of the social custody of the beneficiaries, psychological and tutorial support, the provision of transportation, school supplies and continuous support, as well as the periodic evaluation of the program’s impact, through semi-annual reports. The president of the Raíces de Esperanza Foundation, Sofía Elvira Espaillat Namnum, stated that this alliance “arises from the shared pain for the lives lost and the firm commitment not to abandon those who today face the absence of their loved ones.” “We bet on education as a path to healing, dignity, and rebuilding the future,” as he points out. For his part, the chancellor of UNICARIBE, Dr. José Alejandro Aybar M., highlighted that the university “solidarily joins this cause, accompanying the Foundation in an effort where education becomes an act of social justice and hope.” The agreement will be in effect indefinitely, in line with its humanitarian nature and the responsibility assumed in the face of a tragedy whose consequences require long-term support. With this initiative, the Raíces de Esperanza Foundation reaffirms its ethical and social responsibility in the face of the Jet Set tragedy, transforming pain into a concrete action of support, memory and future, and placing education as a fundamental tool for the overcoming of those who today face loss.
