La Romana, D.R.– The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led a workday this Thursday in the La Romana province, where she delivered a new complex for the Armed Forces in Bayahíbe, inaugurated the remodeling of the San Martín de Porres Sports and Cultural Club, and initiated the construction of drinking water distribution networks that will benefit more than 35,000 people.
During the handover of the military complex in Bayahíbe, Peña highlighted that this infrastructure will allow for the strengthening of the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces and will contribute to the protection of the Dominican coasts.
“This work is part of the Dominican Government’s commitment, under the leadership of President Luis Abinader, to the strengthening of our Armed Forces and to the modernization of the capabilities that allow them to efficiently fulfill their constitutional mission,” stated the Vice President.
The new complex features a video surveillance system, climate-controlled areas, internet connection, modern furniture, a kitchen equipped with a cold room, parking spaces, a basketball court, and a gazebo. Additionally, it has a dry marina for boats, a parking area, and five vacation homes with a capacity for six people each, intended for military personnel.
Subsequently, the vice president delivered the renovation of the San Martín de Porres Sports and Cultural Club, located in the Papagayo sector, a project executed by the General Directorate of Community Development that will impact nearly 1,475 children, adolescents, and young people, as well as families who participate in the space’s sports, cultural, and community activities.

The works included the rehabilitation of the sports center, improvements to its structure, roof, sports areas, changing rooms, bathrooms, multipurpose room, and general equipment, with the aim of offering safer and more adequate facilities for the community.

As part of her agenda, Peña also participated in the commemorative events for the 126th anniversary of the municipality of La Romana, where she highlighted the contribution of this province to the country’s economic and social development.
The vice president stated that the Government will continue to promote projects that strengthen the growth of communities and improve the quality of life of their inhabitants.

Likewise, he highlighted that more than 25 works have been delivered in La Romana, including the Villa Hermosa Hospital, the boardwalk of the Caleta municipal district, and the repair of the Eleoncio Mercedes Sports Center.
The day concluded with the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new drinking water distribution networks in the Romana del Oeste sectors and the municipal district of Caleta.
The project includes the installation of 5.3 kilometers of pipelines and will benefit more than 35 thousand people in communities such as Romana del Oeste, Las Orquídeas, Residencial Romana, Vista Catalina, Caleta, and areas near the Hilton Hotel.
The activity was attended by the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo; the president of the Dominican Municipal League, Víctor D’Aza; the provincial governor, Ivelisse Méndez; the Eastern regional director of the National Police, General Jorge Galán; the executive vice president of Central Romana, Leo Matos; Senator Eduard Espiritusanto; deputies Jacqueline Fernández and Wandy Batista, as well as municipal authorities and representatives of public and private institutions.
