The new space at the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez School will allow for the expansion of educational and sports activities for the students of Guayacanal
Azua.– The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, delivered this Saturday the roofing of the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez Initial and Basic School, in the community of Guayacanal, Pueblo Viejo municipality, Azua province, a project that will benefit 349 students and strengthen the conditions for the development of sports, cultural, recreational, and community activities.
The work is part of the actions being carried out by the government of President Luis Abinader to continue improving educational infrastructure and offer students adequate spaces to learn and develop.
The infrastructure, executed by the School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE), under the direction of engineer Roberto Herrera, had an investment of over RD$38 million and provides the educational center with a covered and safe space for carrying out activities throughout the year.
During the event, the Vice Minister of Supervision and Educational Quality Control, Óscar Amargós, representing the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that school infrastructure is not a luxury, but a basic condition to guarantee the right to education and provide students with dignified and adequate spaces for their integral development.

Vice Minister Amargós indicated that the project responds to the Government’s commitment to improve school infrastructure and guarantee dignified spaces for the comprehensive training of students.
Likewise, he explained that the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez School currently serves 349 students at the Initial and Primary levels and noted that, before the construction of the roof, the school did not have a covered space for sports, cultural, and school activities.
“This work is not just a roof. It is a statement that the children in the south of the country also count,” expressed the vice minister, highlighting that school infrastructure constitutes a fundamental condition for guaranteeing quality education.

Likewise, he highlighted the importance of the new space being able to integrate into the inter-ministerial strategy Open and Active School, which promotes the opening of public educational centers during weekends to develop sports, cultural, recreational, and civic training activities.
“A roof like the one we are inaugurating today is not just infrastructure for school activities; it is the physical condition that makes it possible for Open and Active School to reach Guayacanal,” he stated.
The official urged the educational community and families to take care of and make the most of the work, considering that the public school constitutes a heritage of the entire community.
Special day for Guayacanal
Wanda Isabel Santana Vásquez, on behalf of the students, expressed that this is a special day for Guayacanal, as they now have a new space where they will be able to develop their talents, practice sports, and strengthen values.
He urged his classmates to take care of the court and use it responsibly, in order to keep the name of the Javier Antonio Castillo Pérez School held high.

Father Rafael Cuello, from the Our Lady of Las Mercedes parish, offered an emotional prayer of blessing for the new work, asking God to protect the students, teachers, families, and the entire community of Guayacanal that will use this space for sports, education, culture, and healthy coexistence.
