RD wins gold and silver in women’s doubles at the Santo Domingo International Badminton Open 2025

Santo Domingo.- The pair of Laritza Pie and Nairobi Jiménez won the gold medal in the women’s doubles modality of the Santo Domingo Open Internacional de Bádminton 2025, a tournament organized by the Dominican Badminton Federation and which concluded this Sunday on the courts of the New Horizons Academy of this city. Showcasing their agile and strategic game with the racket and shuttlecock, Pie and Jiménez defeated their compatriots Liselot Sánchez and A. Sánchez Matos, with scores of 18-21, 21-16, and 21-17, who took the silver medal. Meanwhile, Puerto Ricans Gabriela Caraballo Cardona and Glorialys Méndez Delgado settled for the bronze medal in the competition in which 16 nations participated.

Regarding the results obtained by the Dominican delegation in the international competition, the president of the Dominican Badminton Federation, Nelson Javier Ozuna, said he felt very satisfied with the progress that this discipline has had, specifically in the international events that have been held here and abroad.

“The badminton family is super happy. Every time we are at an event of this magnitude, we notice the progress made not only at a competitive level, but also in the technical and organizational aspects,” he said. 

Participants and Sponsors

Athletes from Canada, United States, Belgium, Switzerland, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Canada, India, Puerto Rico, United States, and the hosts from the Dominican Republic participated in the Santo Domingo Open Badminton. The “open” was competed in the modalities of singles and doubles (men’s and women’s) and mixed.
