Santo Domingo.– The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, announced the doubling of the economic contribution from the Ministry of Sports for the celebration of the X Superior Basketball Championship of Santo Domingo Province (TBS Santo Domingo 2026), raising the contribution to two million pesos to support the organization and staging of the event.
The tournament, which will be dedicated to President Luis Abinader, will begin this Friday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m. in the sports complex of the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, with the inaugural match between the current champions Caminantes de Los Alcarrizos and the runners-up Trenes de Santo Domingo Norte.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in the James Rodríguez hall of the Ministry of Sports, where Minister Cruz highlighted the importance of the event for the sports and social development of the country’s most populous province.
“We ratify our firm support for the TBS Santo Domingo 2026, a tournament that directly impacts the urban fabric with the highest population concentration and with a significant presence of young athletes. With this increase in the contribution, we seek to guarantee an event that meets expectations,” said Cruz.
The official also underscored President Abinader’s support for national sports, highlighting the construction and renovation of more than 100 sports centers and multipurpose facilities throughout the national territory, works that, he affirmed, contribute to social transformation and the strengthening of Dominican youth.

In this tenth edition, the six traditional franchises will be in action:
Caminantes de Los Alcarrizos (defending champions)
Trenes de Santo Domingo Norte (winners in 2024)
Loros Calientes de Santo Domingo (2023 champions)
Leñeros de Los Mina (one title)
Calero de Villa Duarte (five championships, historical top winner)
Caobas City, from Santo Domingo Oeste
Extensive institutional support
The activity was attended by Ángel De la Cruz, president of the Organizing Committee and the Presidential Commission for Support of Provincial Development; Garibaldi Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD); and William Cabral Lugo, president of the Santo Domingo Basketball Association (Abasado).
Municipal and provincial authorities also attended, as well as representatives from the sports and business sectors that support the event.
The technical direction of the tournament will be in charge of Ramón Ceballos and Maikel Rodríguez.
With institutional support and the participation of the main franchises in the province, the TBS Santo Domingo 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most relevant sporting events on the national calendar, consolidating its role as a development platform for superior basketball and Dominican youth.
