The authorities launched an operation for the regularization and oversight of motorcycle taxi stands in the municipality of Bonao, Monseñor Nouel province, as part of the actions promoted by the Government to strengthen road safety, organize passenger transport, and combat informality in the sector.
The day is coordinated by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), in conjunction with the National Police, the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), the General Directorate of Migration and other State security agencies.
During the interventions, the authorities verify that drivers have valid driver’s licenses, motorcycle registration, up-to-date insurance, protective helmets, and other documents required by Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit, and Road Safety. In addition, a process of identification and updating of the records of the motorcycle taxi stands operating in the area is carried out.

The operation seeks to ensure that the stops function within the legal framework and offer a safer service for both drivers and users. Likewise, the relocation or elimination of those stops that obstruct traffic or fail to meet the minimum conditions required to operate is contemplated.
The authorities explained that this plan is part of a national strategy for the regulation of motorcycle transport, which has already been implemented in other locations across the country. As a result of recent operations in Greater Santo Domingo, dozens of motorcycle taxi stands were intervened, motorcycles were impounded due to irregularities, and multiple citations were issued for non-compliance with traffic regulations.

INTRANT highlighted that the regularization of stops will allow for better organization of motorcycle transport, reduce risks on the roads, and strengthen citizen security, especially in municipalities where motorcycle taxis constitute one of the main means of transport for the population.
With this initiative, the authorities seek to move towards a more formal, safe, and regulated motorcycle transport system that guarantees better service for the citizens of Bonao and other communities in the country.
