Santo Domingo. – Deep consternation and concern are felt among the residents of Primera Street in the Las Palmas de Herrera sector, after a man, allegedly intoxicated, ran over two elderly women, an event that has shocked the entire community.
Although many neighbors were not in the exact place at the time of the accident, the impact of the event has been significant due to the proximity between those involved and the community roots of the sector.
“The community is dismayed by that event. Possibly the driver was drunk, lost control of the vehicle and what happened occurred. They are two elderly people, thank God they are alive,” said Juan Olivo, a resident of the area.

According to versions shared by community members, one of the women, an elderly one, would have received around 30 stitches to the face, while the other remains in delicate condition, although with signs of improvement.
“It was first said that one had passed away, but then it was confirmed that she hadn’t, that she’s alive, although in a delicate state. The other one is already starting to talk,” Olivo commented.
The testimony of the neighbors reflects not only concern for the health of the victims, but also the emotional impact that the event has generated in the environment, where everyone knows each other and lives together daily.
“These are things one doesn’t expect. They are events that affect entire families. We are not accusing anyone, but we deeply regret what happened,” added the community member.
Residents pointed out that the driver involved would also be from the sector, which has deepened the shock among the neighbors.
“I think the young man lives nearby. That makes everything more painful for the community,” they indicated.
While investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the event, residents maintain the hope that both women can recover, while calling for prudence and responsibility at the wheel to avoid similar tragedies.
