Santo Domingo Este.- Just three days before Mother’s Day is celebrated in the Dominican Republic, several florists in the country say that sales are still slow, although they remain hopeful that commercial activity will increase from Friday, as usually happens every year.
During a tour of different florists, merchants expressed concern about the lack of dynamism in sales and the increase in the costs of the products used for arrangements and personalized details.
In the flower shop Félix Arias, its owner, Yahaira Félix, explained that sales are “super slow“, a situation she attributed to both the low influx of customers and the increase in the prices of flowers and other materials.
“Everything is more expensive: the flowers, the decorated mugs, the personalized breakfasts and the arrangements. Costs are skyrocketing”, he stated.
However, Yahaira indicated that she maintains the expectation that sales will improve in the coming days, as many people usually make their purchases at the last minute.
Similarly, Orquídea, owner of the flower shop that bears her name, pointed out that the situation is similar in her business, although she assured that she expects a greater flow of buyers as the celebration approaches.
“Sales are slow, but Dominicans always leave everything for the last minute, so we expect this to pick up more between Friday and Saturday,” he said.
Mother’s Day in the Dominican Republic will be celebrated this Sunday, a date on which the demand for flowers, gifts, and personalized details traditionally increases to honor Dominican mothers.
