Santo Domingo, D.N.– The Director General of the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI), Salvador Ramos, led an accountability event in which he presented the main results achieved during his last year of management.
Among the notable achievements is the increase in applications for the registration of distinctive signs, which reached about 86 thousand, for a growth of more than 11% compared to 2025.
The official also reported that renewals of trade names, trademarks, and other types of distinctive signs recorded an increase of more than 14%, which, in his view, reflects the growth in demand for the services offered by the institution.
Before invited officials, collaborators, and media representatives, Ramos also highlighted the collaboration agreements signed with universities such as the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Nordestana Catholic University, the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), INTEC, APEC, UNIBE, UAPA, and UNICDA.
He explained that these agreements allow for the development of training programs, talks, peripheral Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC), and other initiatives related to industrial property.

Ramos also highlighted the strengthening of the enforcement of Law 20-00, which establishes the legal framework for industrial property and regulates the functions of ONAPI, noting that this regulation serves as a reference for managers and sectors linked to the development of new businesses.

During his speech, he also mentioned the joint work with institutions such as the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), the ministries of Energy and Mines, Tourism and Foreign Affairs, as well as OGTIC, ProDominicana, ProIndustria, the General Directorate of Customs, the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce and ADOPI.

As explained, these alliances are part of the initiatives aimed at facilitating public services and reducing bureaucratic processes for citizens.
As part of the activity, expert Ana Carolina Blanco gave a lecture titled “Industrial Property in times of Technology”.
An audiovisual was also presented, which highlighted various activities and projects developed by Ramos and his team during the last year at the helm of ONAPI.
Among the guests were the Vice Minister of the MICM, Daniel Peña; Ambassador Rafael Núñez; the Director General of the ONDA, Rubén Gonell; Rafelina Peralta, titular judge of the Superior Electoral Court; Hadeline Matos, Vice Minister of the MAP, and Miguel Puello, Deputy Ombudsman.
The activity was held in the Víctor Villegas auditorium, located at the ONAPI headquarters.
