Santo Domingo Este firefighters strengthen their operational capacity with a new firefighting unit

Santo Domingo Este.– The Santo Domingo Este Fire Department (CBSDE) has incorporated a new firefighting unit with a capacity of 1,500 gallons of water, with the aim of strengthening its response capacity for emergencies, structural and forest fires, as well as rescue operations and support during natural disasters.

The unit was received in excellent operating condition and is equipped with multiple discharge lines, which will allow for improved efficiency in responding to different types of emergencies and expand the institution’s response capacity for the benefit of the population. The vehicle is part of a batch of equipment intended to reinforce the fire department’s vehicle fleet.

The handover ceremony was led by the mayor of Santo Domingo East, Dío Astacio, accompanied by Colonel César Balbi, representative of the Ministry of Interior and Police and the Supervisory Office of the Fire Departments, on behalf of Minister Faride Raful. During the activity, both reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening first responder agencies.

In his speech, Astacio highlighted the importance of continuing to support the Santo Domingo Este Fire Department, emphasizing that their work is fundamental to ensuring the safety of the citizens. Likewise, he thanked the Ministry of Interior and Police for addressing the operational needs of the institution.

For his part, Colonel Balbi stated that the Ministry recognizes the responsiveness demonstrated by the Santo Domingo Este firefighters in multiple emergencies that have occurred both in the municipality and in other areas of the country, and he valued the dedication and professionalism of its members.

Balbi further pointed out that the Ministry will continue to promote actions to strengthen the equipment, training, and operational conditions of fire departments nationwide. He also congratulated General CB. Roberto Santos Méndez and all the institution’s personnel for the work they perform.

General CB. Roberto Santos Méndez, Intendant of the Santo Domingo Este Fire Department and President of the National Union of Fire Departments of the Dominican Republic (UNABOM), thanked President Luis Abinader and Minister Faride Raful for the support provided to the firefighting sector and for addressing the needs of the municipality.

Our men and women are committed to serving the citizenry with dedication, professionalism, and a sense of duty,” expressed Santos Méndez.

The mayor concluded that urban growth, the impact of climate change, and the occurrence of natural phenomena make it essential to have better-equipped fire departments with highly trained personnel, in order to offer a faster, more efficient, and safer response to any emergency.
