“Santo Domingo Through Your Eyes” highlights the identity and beauty of the capital through photography

Santo Domingo.– With the purpose of showcasing the cultural, human, and visual richness of the Dominican capital from different perspectives, the art exhibition and awards ceremony for the “Santo Domingo Through Your Eyes” contest were held, an initiative promoted by the “Holiday Inn” and “Crown Hotel Plaza” hotels, companies that bet on photography as a tool to discover and value the city’s attractions.
Caroline Mota, Director of Rooms and part of the organizing team, explained that the project arose from the union of both establishments with a common vision: to offer a different look at Santo Domingo through the eyes of amateur photographers.
“This is an initiative of the two hotels that come together with a vision of seeing how our people, how amateur photographers can see the city of Santo Domingo through their eyes,” he stated.
The call received 185 photographs, from which a jury selected the 45 best ones, taking into account aspects such as creativity, originality, and the participants’ ability to represent the city from different perspectives.
Mota highlighted that photography allows for the discovery of elements of the city that often go unnoticed amidst daily activities.
“Photography is an art form that shows us a glimpse through every lens, according to the perspective of the one who sees it,” he/she expressed.
Likewise, he pointed out that the initiative seeks to project Santo Domingo beyond its traditional sun and heat offering, highlighting its culture, its people, and the passion with which Dominicans work every day.
“We wanted to show Santo Domingo in a different way, as a destination that offers more than just sun and heat, but rather that we can see the culture, the people, and the passion with which Dominicans wake up every day to give their best,” he/she maintained.

With this exhibition, the organizers seek to foster photographic talent, promote new ways of appreciating the city, and highlight the elements that are part of its cultural identity.
