Monte Cristi.- The Agua de Luis primary school, located in the Hatillo Palma municipal district, Monte Cristi province, shows advanced deterioration in its physical facilities, a situation that keeps parents and community members worried about the conditions in which 76 students receive instruction.
According to community members, the school facility has been awaiting renovation since 2012, during the Danilo Medina administration. They point out that, with the start of the extended school day program, the school was among the first slated for intervention; however, they assert that the project has not shown significant progress and remains stalled.
The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), through its Facebook account ADP Guayubín, denounced the deterioration of the educational center and expressed concern for the safety of the students and teachers who attend the school daily.
“This has no columns, it has no rods, this is deteriorated on all sides”, stated parents of the students when describing the conditions of the building.
“We fear for the lives of our children and the teachers of this school in Agua de Luis, since this school is very deteriorated, it is falling down”, stated one of the mothers, who warned about the danger that an earthquake would pose while students and teachers are inside the premises.
The school, belonging to Educational District 13-02 of Guayubín, presents broken floors, holes and cracks that extend to the walls, as well as gaps in different areas of the structure and deteriorated windows.
Conditions also affect health services. The center has a latrine located outside the main building, built of wood and with a zinc roof, according to reports from community members.
ADP demands intervention
Given the situation at this and other educational centers in the area, the Dominican Association of Teachers announced measures related to the school day in several schools in Guayubín, and they demand that educational authorities prioritize the requests that, as indicated, were submitted since last year by the 13-02 branch.
Among their demands is compliance with Departmental Order 02-2019 and attention to the infrastructure conditions affecting educational centers in the district.
