Santo Domingo Este.– The School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE) began demolition work on the Gregorio Luperón Basic School, located in the municipal district of San Luis, as part of a comprehensive intervention that will allow for the construction of new classrooms, the improvement of the school’s infrastructure, and the guarantee of safer conditions for the educational community.
The institution explained that, following a technical evaluation, it was determined that the center showed advanced deterioration due to the age of the building, which is why it was necessary to launch a reconstruction plan within the Aulas 24/7-365 program, which contemplates definitive solutions to the school’s structural problems.
Among the main actions are the demolition of the classroom block in poor condition to erect a new building, the reconstruction of a section of the perimeter fence that collapsed, the preventive reinforcement of the structure of another four-classroom block, and the construction of a rainwater drainage system to reduce the risk of flooding.
As part of the project, the DIE reported that it will install four fully equipped modular classrooms, which will be ready by next August with the purpose of guaranteeing the continuity of teaching at the start of the new school year.

Likewise, corrective maintenance work will be carried out in the operational areas that will remain in operation while the work progresses.
The institution indicated that the modular classrooms will address the immediate need for space for students, while the complete intervention of the school is scheduled to be completed between the months of November and December of this year.
The person in charge of School Infrastructure in the area, Dany Cortez, stated that the project seeks to completely transform the conditions of the educational center.

The School Infrastructure Directorate highlighted that this work is part of the Government’s efforts, led by President Luis Abinader, to strengthen educational infrastructure, prevent risks in school facilities, and guarantee adequate spaces for the teaching and learning process.
