Santo Domingo.- The Senate of the Republic approved in a second reading a bill that modifies the regulations on the administration of seized, confiscated, and abandoned assets in criminal and asset forfeiture proceedings, creating the National Institute for the Custody and Administration of Seized, Confiscated, and Forfeited Assets.
The initiative establishes that part of the resources derived from these assets will be allocated to strengthening actions against gender-based and domestic violence. The Public Prosecutor’s Office will coordinate these efforts together with the Ministry of Women, the Ministry of Interior and Police, the Ministry of Education, and other related institutions.
The proposal contemplates that 40% of the funds be used by the Public Prosecutor’s Office to promote prevention, protection, comprehensive care, and institutional response programs regarding gender-based violence, while the remaining 60% will be distributed among the other competent entities.
The resources will be aimed, among other actions, at supporting shelters and behavioral care centers for men involved in violent behavior or attempted femicide, with the goal of contributing to cultural transformation and the prevention of these acts.
The project was presented by senators Pedro Catrain, Lía Ynocencia Díaz Santana, Aracelis Villanueva Figueroa, María Mercedes Ortiz, and Ginnette Bournigal de Jiménez.

During this Monday’s extraordinary session, the Senate also approved other initiatives, including one declaring May 16 as “National Day of Dominican Suffragists,” with the purpose of recognizing the historical role of the suffrage movement and promoting women’s political participation.
In addition, the bill modifying Law 4463 was approved to establish that the transfer of illustrious figures to the Pantheon of the Fatherland must be carried out through a law, as well as the initiative that declares the Mangulina as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Dominican Nation.
The Plenary also sanctioned in the first reading the bill that designates as “Altagracia Highway” the road section that connects Hato Mayor del Rey with the municipal district of El Puerto, and approved a resolution of recognition for Iván Ernesto Gatón Rosa for his contributions to education, culture, and the training of generations.
