Shooting at Cinemacentro leaves one dead and a police officer injured; authorities investigate

Santo Domingo, R.D. – An armed incident that occurred at midday this Sunday in Cinemacentro, located on the capital’s waterfront, left one civilian dead and one police officer injured, according to the National Police. The institution’s spokesperson, Diego Pesqueira, confirmed that the incident is under investigation by the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM), in coordination with the Public Ministry. According to preliminary data, the event caused alarm among the people who were in the place, while police and emergency units quickly went to control the situation and secure the area. So far, authorities have not offered details about the circumstances in which the shooting occurred, nor the identity of the people involved.
