A violent shooting inside a bar in the El Cocal sector, in the province of Puntarenas, in Costa Rica, left two people dead and one man injured on the night of this Tuesday, in an event that is being investigated by the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ).
According to the preliminary report from the authorities, the incident was reported around 9:10 p.m., at which time several witnesses alerted about a shooting inside a commercial establishment, a bar, in that area of the central Pacific. According to the initial reconstruction of events, the victims were inside the premises when, apparently, two men arrived at the site and entered the establishment, after which, for reasons that are still unclear, they would have begun to shoot at the people present.The fatalities were identified by the surnames Montiel, 33 years old, and Elizondo, 28 years old. The first died at the scene after receiving two gunshot wounds to the head and one to the chest, injuries that caused his death immediately.
The authorities also indicated that the woman was apparently pregnant, an element that adds greater seriousness and consternation to the case, both for the authorities and for the community.

(Illustrative Image Infobae) During the attack, there would have been an exchange of gunfire inside the premises, since, according to the first versions, a person who was in the place would have tried to repel the aggression using a firearm. This reaction would have caused a direct confrontation with the attackers.After the shooting, the suspects managed to flee the scene, so an operation is underway to find them. So far, the identity of the alleged perpetrators has not been confirmed, nor has it been confirmed whether the event would be linked to any settling of scores or other type of criminal motive.
As a result of this exchange, a third man was injured by a firearm. He was taken to a medical center for treatment, however, according to the preliminary report, he did not have serious injuries, so he is out of danger. Agents from the Judicial Investigation Agency arrived at the scene minutes after the incident to conduct the corresponding inspection. At the scene, investigators collected “evidence balistic”, interviewed witnesses, and coordinated the removal of the bodies. The remains of the victims were sent to the judicial morgue, where the required autopsy will be performed as part of the investigative process. The OIJ is maintaining the investigation to clarify the motive for the attack and locate those responsible. This fact brings to the table again the concern about the levels of violence in coastal areas, particularly in tourist spots like Puntarenas, where in recent months several incidents related to firearms have been recorded. The authorities do not rule out that the attack is linked to disputes between criminal groups, although they stressed that all hypotheses remain open as the investigation progresses. For now, the case is still under development and the OIJ requests the collaboration of the citizenry to provide any information that may help locate the suspects.
