Santo Domingo.- The National Health Service (SNS) achieved a significant advance in 2025 in the plan for strengthening hospital infrastructure, with the delivery of more than 20 hospitals with important interventions, including: new constructions, general renovations , expansions of Emergencies, re-adaptations of areas and habilitation of service units, with which they exceed the 90 hospitals delivered by the current government administration.

Among the hospitals inaugurated and delivered by the SNS, the Traumatology Hospital of Azua stands out, which, together with the Traumatology Hospital of Higüey delivered by the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (Mived),  has allowed a 67% expansion of the National Trauma Network.

The SNS put into service three Diabetic Foot Units, enabled in the  Hospital de Imbert, in Puerto Plata; the Provincial Inmaculada Concepción, in Sánchez Ramírez, and the General Regional Marcelino Vélez Santana, in Santo Domingo, which added to other seven units that are in process will form the National Diabetic Foot Network.

Likewise, last year he delivered three Oncology Units at the Inmaculada Concepción Provincial Hospital, in Sánchez Ramírez; the Dr. Ángel Contreras Provincial Hospital, in Monte Plata, and the José María Cabral y Báez Regional University Hospital, in Santiago, which, together with five others that are in process, will make up the SNS exhibits strengthening Public Health Network in 2025 | Presidency of the Dominican Republic

As a result of the strengthening plan, hospitals have experienced a historic increase in the production of services in recent years. From January to November 2025, 42,609,046 million services were offered in the areas of: outpatient consultations, emergencies, laboratory tests, imaging and surgeries, which reflects an increase of 8.78% compared to the same period last year, where the total was 39,168,859.

As a result of these and other important actions, the SNS closed 2025 recognized with a Silver Medal in the XXI Edition of the National Quality Award for the Public Sector, awarded by the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) for its excellence and continuous improvement in quality.

The head of the National Health Service, doctor Mario Lama highlighted that these and other significant advances experienced by the health sector directly affect the quality of care offered to the population and mainly impact four fundamental dimensions: access, equity, safety, and user experience. “These actions have reduced gaps between provinces, decreased waiting times, transportation costs, and geographical barriers, ensuring that populations in vulnerable situations have wider access to essential services, which represents a concrete step towards a closer and more universal system,” Lama pointed out.
