Specialists call on media outlets to move from experimenting with AI to integrating it into their newsrooms

They suggest that media outlets should use artificial intelligence to optimize content distribution.
Miami.- Artificial intelligence has ceased to be an experimental tool and has become a strategic component for news organizations. This was one of the main conclusions of the panel “Beyond the experiment: how to integrate AI and reconnect with audiences”, held during SIPConnect 2026, where experts agreed that the greatest challenge for media outlets is to incorporate this technology into their daily processes without losing sight of their readers’ needs.
During the discussion, the panelists pointed out that many organizations have already moved past the stage of isolated artificial intelligence tests and must now focus on integrating it transversally into newsrooms, product development, content distribution, and data analysis to strengthen their relationship with audiences.
Experts warned that technology, on its own, will not solve the problems facing the industry. They explained that AI must respond to clearly defined editorial and business objectives, allowing for a better understanding of user behavior, personalizing the news experience, and offering more relevant content without compromising journalistic quality.

Another point addressed was the need to reconnect with audiences whose consumption habits have changed rapidly. In that context, it was proposed that media outlets must use artificial intelligence to identify interests, optimize content distribution, and develop new digital products that strengthen user loyalty.
The participants also agreed that the implementation of these tools must be carried out under principles of transparency, human oversight, and editorial responsibility, so that technological innovation contributes to strengthening the credibility of the media and not to weakening it.
The panel was part of the agenda for SIPConnect 2026, the innovation conference of the Inter American Press Association (IAPA), which brings together media executives, journalists, and digital transformation specialists in Miami to discuss artificial intelligence, sustainability, business models, and the future of journalism.
