La Altagracia.– A 17-year-old teenager lost his life and another of the same age was injured during a shooting that occurred early this Thursday in the Los Sotos sector, Higüey municipality, the National Police reported.
The victim was identified as Yordany Santana, 17 years old, who passed away due to a gunshot wound that caused respiratory arrest and hemorrhagic shock, according to the report issued by the medical examiner.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Mélida Rodríguez Street. Agents from the Regional Sub-directorate of Investigation (Dicrim) arrived at the scene, along with representatives of the Public Ministry, members of the Scientific Police, and the medical examiner, who carried out the removal of the body.

Also injured in the incident was Dariel Eliseo Guerrero Castillo, 17, who suffered a gunshot wound with an entry and exit point in his right leg. The young man was taken to the Higüey Trauma Hospital, where he remains receiving medical attention.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting may have originated from personal conflicts that the individuals involved had been having for some time. Authorities continue to deepen their inquiries to clarify the circumstances of the event and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
