The Prosecutor’s Office of the Italian city of Milan requested this Tuesday a sentence of one year and eight months in prison for the famous ‘influencer’ Chiara Ferragni for alleged fraud with the sale of Christmas sweets promoted with her brand. Prosecutor Cristian Barilli has requested the judge to sentence the celebrity for aggravated fraud, according to local media reports. Ferragni attended the hearing this morning, as did the other two defendants in the process, her collaborator Fabio Damato and the president of the company ‘Cerealitalia-ID’, Franco Cannilo.

The next hearing will take place on December 19th and it will be the defense’s turn. The trial, brought by abbreviated procedure at the will of the accused herself, began on November 4th in the Milan Court and will try to clarify this case. Ferragni, one of the most famous ‘influencers’ in the digital world and social media, has ended up in the dock for the promotion with supposed charitable purposes that she did with her brand in 2021 and 2022 of some Easter Eggs and ‘pandoros’, typical cakes of each Christmas in Italy. Researchers believe that the Balocco brand sold the pandoros with the Ferragni logo for more than nine euros (three times the usual price) promising that each sale would entail a donation to the Regina Margherita pediatric hospital in Turin (north). However, it ended up being discovered that the donation had been made ‘a priori’ and that, therefore, its amount did not depend on sales. This case forced Ferragni to withdraw for a long time from public life and social media after apologizing in a video in which she announced that she would return one million euros to the Regina Margherita hospital in Turin (northern Italy). The media storm also caused a crisis for her brand and the breakup with her partner and father of her two children, the rapper Fedez.
