MP requests 12 months in prison against prosecutor accused of receiving US$10,000 from a person under investigation

Santo Domingo.– The Public Ministry requested 12 months of preventive detention as a coercive measure against prosecutor Aurelio Valdez Alcántara, accused of allegedly receiving the sum of US$10,000 from a person under investigation, while representing the accusing body in corruption cases.

The request was filed on the afternoon of this Sunday in the secretariat of the presiding judge of the Court of Appeals of the National District, Julio César Cano Alfau, with the aim of having one of the three chambers of the court take cognizance of the process. It was reported that the hearing was set for this Monday at 2:00 PM, where the request for a coercive measure against the career prosecutor will be known.

According to investigations, the defendant would have received the money while exercising functions within the Public Ministry, which constitutes a serious fault in the exercise of his responsibilities. Authorities indicated that the case is part of efforts to ensure transparency and sanction any act of corruption within state institutions.
