The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) reported that more than 15,000 people died and more than 41,000 were injured as a direct result of the Russian invasion that began on February 24, 2022. The data, released in the mission’s latest report and replicated by Ukrainian media, expose the sustained human impact of the offensive ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Since the beginning of the conflict, at least 15,172 civilians have died, including 766 children, while 41,378 people have been injured, including 2,540 minors, according to information gathered by the HRMMU.
The report, prepared by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, indicates that the vast majority of civilian victims, 87%, were recorded in areas under Ukrainian control. The humanitarian situation worsened during 2025 and 2026. According to the Mission, in 2025 at least 2,526 civilian deaths and 12,162 injuries were reported, a 31% increase compared to 2024, when 2,088 deaths and 9,138 injuries were recorded. Russia has been accused of committing war crimes in Ukraine, including rape, torture, bombing of hospitals, kidnapping of children and the generation of nuclear risks The report details that at least 109 Ukrainian soldiers and 182 civilians were executed, and that dozens of people died in custody.
