Santo Domingo.- During the year 2025, a total of 13 Dominican families authorized the donation of organs and tissues, transforming the lives of dozens of people awaiting a transplant, according to data provided by the National Transplant Coordination Institute (INCORT). Thanks to these acts of solidarity, 445 transplants have been performed to date in the country, directly impacting the quality and life expectancy of patients with chronic and terminal illnesses. Among the procedures performed, 65 kidney transplants stand out, of which 43 came from living donors and 22 from deceased donors. Likewise, three liver transplants were performed, corresponding to two adult patients and one pediatric patient, evidencing advances in specialized care for both adults and children.

Regarding other types of transplants, 360 corneal transplants were recorded, restoring vision to hundreds of people, and 17 bone marrow transplants, essential for the treatment of hematological diseases. However, health authorities warn that demand remains high. Currently, 529 people are on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the Dominican Republic, highlighting the need to strengthen the culture of organ and tissue donation in the country. From INCORT and the National Transplant Council (CNT), the call to the population to inform themselves and talk with their families about the decision to donate is reiterated.
