Santiago.- Two people died and a third managed to survive after the driver of the vehicle in which they were traveling fell into the Ulises Francisco Espaillat irrigation canal, in an area known as “La Emboscada,” in the Santiago Oeste municipal district, an event that has caused great consternation among residents and the victims’ families.
According to preliminary information, the three people were traveling aboard a white Toyota Corolla car belonging to the SW public transport route when, due to circumstances still being investigated by the authorities, the driver lost control and ended up plunging into the canal.
Rescue teams and emergency agencies arrived at the scene to carry out recovery efforts, managing to extract the bodies of two of the occupants who died as a result of the accident, while a third passenger survived the tragedy.
The event has caused shock in the community, where neighbors and onlookers gathered in the vicinity of the canal after learning of the accident. Relatives of the victims also arrived at the scene awaiting official information.
So far, the authorities have not revealed the identities of the deceased nor have they offered details about the causes that led the vehicle to fall into the canal.
Investigations continue to clarify the circumstances of the event.
