Trump threatens to destroy facilities in Tehran if Iran fires on ships in Hormuz

Washington.- US President Donald Trump threatened this Wednesday to destroy facilities in Tehran if Iran fires on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, amid the escalation in the conflict between both countries.

“From now on, every time the Islamic Republic of Iran fires at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether with missiles, rockets, drones, or any other device or weapon, the U.S. will bomb and destroy a bridge or a power plant, including those facilities located next to or within the capital, Tehran,” he wrote on Truth Social.

The president issued the warning on his way to Dover Air Force Base, in the state of Delaware, to receive with honors the remains of the U.S. service members killed following Iranian attacks in Jordan and Iraq, the first U.S. casualties since the truce was broken about two weeks ago.

The Pentagon also confirmed this Tuesday the death of Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, 28, previously reported missing in Jordanian territory, bringing the number of U.S. service members who have died since the start of the war on February 28 to 18.

Trump had already threatened Iran to make it pay dearly for the death of the soldiers.

Attacks

U.S. forces completed their eleventh consecutive night of strikes against Iran this Tuesday, in a new operation that, according to Central Command (Centcom), hit military operations centers, drone and aircraft facilities, maritime capabilities, and military logistics.

Centcom stated that the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic route for crude oil and goods that has become one of the focal points of the conflict, remains “open” to the transit of commercial vessels despite Iranian attacks against more than 30 ships in the last three months.

For its part, Tehran stated this Wednesday that it attacked two military bases used by the United States in Jordan, where it claimed to have destroyed eight MQ-9 drones and caused deaths and injuries among U.S. military personnel, while Iranian media reported explosions in the south of the country.

The exchange of attacks complicates efforts to seek a conciliatory way out of the war and has put talks in search of a peace agreement on hold.
