Santo Domingo. — In a matter of weeks, two of the eight presidential hopefuls of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) have declined their aspirations to support the pre-candidacy of Gonzalo Castillo. First it was Charlie Mariotti; now Mario Bruno, a member of the Central Committee, has joined them.
Beyond the names, the political signal is clear: leaders who had personal projects are deciding to dismantle them to converge on a single candidacy. It is the type of movement that, historically, precedes the formation of a consensus candidacy.

“It is not about a person, it is about a project. Every colleague who joins understands that unity is the only way for the PLD to win again,” stated Yuri Enrique Rodríguez.
Castillo thus consolidates himself as the figure around whom internal leaderships are beginning to align, in a process that—if the pace is maintained—could completely reorder the map of PLD pre-candidacies heading into 2028.
