The U.S. Embassy in Venezuela issued a new security alert reiterating that the South American country remains at Travel Warning Level 4, the highest category of the State Department, which indicates “Do not travel“. In the statement, the diplomatic headquarters urged all U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents to leave Venezuela immediately, citing a rapid deterioration of the internal situation and increasing risks to their physical integrity. The alert indicates that in Venezuelan territory, extreme conditions persist that endanger visitors and residents, including: a high risk of arbitrary detentions, torture during detentions, incidents of terrorism and kidnappings, arbitrary application of local laws, high crime and civil unrest, and critical deficiencies in health infrastructure. According to the notice, these factors make Venezuela a highly dangerous and unpredictable environment, which is why they recommend avoiding any travel to the country and, for those already there, leaving as soon as possible using available commercial options.
