New York.- The United States launched a new round of attacks against Iran this Saturday after Tehran bombed a Cyprus-flagged vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).
At 19:15 local time (23:15 GMT), U.S. forces launched the third offensive against Iran this week.
According to Centcom, Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged container ship, which caused a fire on the vessel and damage to the engine room that forced the voyage to be halted.
A crew member is missing.
“Iran was given a new opportunity to demonstrate compliance with the memorandum of understanding after being held accountable for previous attacks against commercial vessels, but it has failed again,” the military command stated in a message on X.
U.S. forces justified the attack against the Islamic Republic by stating they are “degrading its ability” to attack other vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, for its part, announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed “until further notice“.
The Revolutionary Guard asserted that any foreign interference to open an “illegal route” in the region will receive a forceful response, as reported by the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
