San Pedro de Macorís. – The University Council of the Universidad Central del Este (UCE) awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa to the Italian ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Stefano Queirolo Palmas, in recognition of his outstanding diplomatic career and his contributions to the strengthening of bilateral relations between both nations.
The distinction, considered the highest honorary recognition awarded by the academy, was presented during a solemn ceremony held on the university campus, with the presence of academic authorities, diplomatic representatives, special guests, and members of the student community.
Ambassador Queirolo Palmas, with nearly four decades of diplomatic career, has been an active promoter of scientific and academic diplomacy, promoting the integration of Dominican universities into the Italian educational ecosystem. Thanks to his management and the support of the Italian Government, 655 members of the UCE university community have strengthened their Italian language learning, while 14 students are currently participating in academic exchange programs in Italy.
During the event, the rector of the UCE, Mtro. José Altagracia Hazim Torres, highlighted that this recognition symbolizes the gratitude of the academy towards a trajectory that has built bridges of knowledge and friendship between peoples.
“His work reminds us that diplomacy, when based on education and culture, becomes a powerful tool for transforming societies,” said the rector.
With this investiture, the Universidad Central del Este reaffirms its commitment to recognize leaders who contribute to academic, social, and cultural development, strengthening the bonds of international cooperation and promoting the exchange of knowledge between nations.
