Milei receives an honorary doctorate in Administration from the Santiago de Cali University

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, received an honorary doctorate in Administration this Friday from the Santiago de Cali University (USC), on the occasion of his visit to this city in southwestern Colombia to attend the inauguration of the president-elect, the far-right Abelardo de la Espriella.

The distinction recognizes both Milei’s career and his administration at the head of the Argentine Government, but also an address he gave to the academic community during his visit to the university, as explained to EFE by the rector of the USC, Carlos Andrés Pérez Galindo, after the ceremony held in the auditorium of the Cali Chamber of Commerce.

“Dr. Milei gave a very interesting dissertation on the need to differentiate what is fair, what is correct, and what are values within politics; to prioritize public service through the common good (…) Having him here today firsthand, not as a politician but as a professor, is a source of pride and, even more so, that as of today he is a graduate of the Santiago de Cali University,” noted Pérez Galindo.

Milei’s reaction to his doctorate at a university in Cali

Milei thanked for the recognition and assured that the experience of his Government can serve “as a reference for other countries in the region”; furthermore, he expressed his confidence in the future of the new Government of Colombia.

“We, at the moment of assuming responsibility at the head of the Government, were facing the worst crisis in the history of Argentina. We had a monetary imbalance worse than the one before 1975. Today we changed the economy and now we know that President Abelardo will achieve it,” he stated.

The ceremony brought together university executives, faculty, students, business leaders, and special guests, before the Argentine president continued with the official agenda scheduled in Cali for the presidential inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella.

De la Espriella’s inauguration, which is being held outside of Bogotá for the first time, will be attended by leaders such as King Felipe VI of Spain and the presidents of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa; Chile, José Antonio Kast; and Paraguay, Santiago Peña, in addition to delegations from other countries and representatives from the United States.
