The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, led the inauguration of the sports complex of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in Santiago this Saturday, a project sponsored by the Banco de Reservas in compliance with an agreement signed between both institutions. Raquel Peña valued the new sports facilities made available to hundreds of young athletes who are pursuing a degree at the institution of higher education in the northern region of the country.

“This work adds to a broad effort in favor of sports and youth that, from our Government and under the leadership of President Luis Abinader, we assume as an unprecedented commitment”, specified the vice president.
Dr. Leonardo Aguilera, executive president of Banreservas, said that this work demonstrates the firm vision and commitment, both of the university and the Bank, for the benefit of the educational community and all its residents, mainly the young people who are passionate about sports.

“In this way, we continue to demonstrate that supporting sports has been a constant for Banreservas and that its current executive presidency, together with the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, are very aware of the high educational value of sports,” he expressed.

Sport and recreation

Aguilera explained that “the works included the complete renovation of the court, such as soil reinforcement, assembly of the metal structure frame of the roof, the construction of bleachers and railings, painting, spaces for bathrooms, among others, complying with all the necessary requirements for this type of construction. The area covers a space of approximately 1,150 square meters.” He stated that the work constitutes an ideal space for children and young people who wish to practice sports to exercise, in pursuit of excellent physical health and healthy recreation for them and their families. The rector of PUCMM, Secilio Espinal, highlighted that the modern and welcoming sports facilities sponsored by Banreservas will contribute to promoting the integral well-being of the university community, while specifying that they were structured in tune with the institutional vision of the University, which drives it to train men and women committed to social transformation from a training inspired by a humanistic and Christian philosophy. It should be noted that Banreservas and that academy maintain a close collaborative relationship, which has allowed the development of joint actions such as the inauguration of the Banreservas Café in Santo Domingo, at the academic headquarters in Santo Domingo, consisting of an innovative business model aimed at future professionals who are trained in said institution of higher education.

A multifunctional court

The sports facility includes a multifunctional court suitable for basketball, volleyball, and soccer, as well as spaces prepared to host large-scale events for table tennis, judo, karate, taekwondo, and chess. The professional court is FIBA certified, ensuring quality standards for national and international competitions. In addition, it has modern stands with a capacity for 444 people, locker rooms with showers, bathrooms, an electrical and data room, and storage areas for sports equipment. The inaugural event was attended by government representatives, academic authorities, Banreservas executives, sports leaders, students, and collaborators.
