Dominican golfer Willy Pumarol Jr. wrote a historic page for national sports by winning the bronze medal in the men’s individual golf event at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, becoming the first representative from the Dominican Republic to reach the podium in this discipline in the history of the regional games.

Pumarol staged a remarkable comeback during the fourth and final round played at the Corales Golf Course, after starting the day in fourth place. With a solid scorecard of 70 strokes (-2), he finished the tournament with a total of 281 strokes (-7), enough to secure the bronze medal.
The Dominican completed his four rounds with scores of 71, 70, 70, and 70 strokes, surpassing in the final standings the Venezuelan Manuel Torres, who finished in fourth place.
The gold medal was won by the Guatemalan José Toledo, with a total of 17 strokes under par, while the Mexican Luis Carrera obtained the silver with -8.
