Puerto Plata. A 23-year-old woman who was several months pregnant lost her life this Sunday afternoon after being involved in a traffic accident that occurred on the main street of the Villa Montellano municipality, in the Puerto Plata province.
The victim was identified as Stacy Kiasmery Vizcaíno Reyes, a resident of the El Silencio sector in that locality. According to initial reports, the young woman was traveling on a scooter when she was struck by an all-terrain vehicle (buggy), dying at the scene due to the injuries sustained.
Preliminary information indicates that the driver of the buggy is a National Police private who was off duty. After the accident, he allegedly fled the scene and left the vehicle in a rural area, where it was subsequently located by agents of the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett).
Versions obtained at the scene indicate that the officer had used the buggy, owned by a relative, to take a ride when the incident occurred. So far, authorities have not provided further details regarding his identity or the circumstances surrounding the accident.
