Santo Domingo.– The communicator Ángel Martínez will have to answer before a court of merits after being accused of alleged defamation and insult to the detriment of the Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful.
The decision was adopted by the Third Instruction Court of the National District, after evaluating the elements presented during the preliminary phase of the judicial process.
The court found that there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to the next stage, where the merits of the accusation will be examined and possible responsibilities will be determined.
The process originates from indications made through digital media, which, according to the Public Ministry, would have affected the official’s reputation.
The accusation is based on legal provisions related to crimes committed through the use of technologies, as contemplated in current regulations on electronic crimes.
During the hearing, representatives of the accusing body defended the need for the case to be tried, in order to clarify the facts and establish consequences according to the law.
With this decision, the case enters a new phase, in which both parties will have the opportunity to present evidence and arguments before the corresponding court.
The case has generated attention in public opinion due to the relevance of the figures involved and the debate on the responsible use of digital platforms.
It is expected that the date for the start of the trial on the merits will be set in the coming days.
