Montecristi, R.D. – The Dominican Republic Army (ERD), detected and detained six Haitian nationals in irregular migratory condition during a surveillance operation carried out in the northern border area of the country.
By using drone units and with the support of intelligence personnel and soldiers from the Manzanillo Military Detachment, a canoe-type artisanal vessel was detected transporting several Haitian nationals, who were illegally crossing the mouth of the Massacre River.
Following aerial and ground surveillance, ERD personnel managed to locate and detain six (06) undocumented individuals, who had entered an abandoned house after crossing the road.
The group was composed of four (04) men and two (02) women, all without documents to accredit their legal status in Dominican territory.
The detained foreigners were taken to the headquarters of the Manzanillo Military Detachment and later transferred to the 10th Infantry Battalion of the ERD, for the corresponding legal purposes in accordance with current regulations.
The ERD maintains permanent border surveillance to combat the illicit trafficking of people and support other state institutions in the preservation of national security and sovereignty.
